1. Before
  • Do's
    • Prepare by reading about snorkeling basics.
    • Stay calm and relaxed.
    • Use sunscreen and protection products.
    • Choose a location with waves and marine life for a rich and enjoyable experience.
    • Check all necessary equipment.
    • Inspect for any gear wear and tear such as belts, buckles, fin straps, masks, etc.
    • Wear masks that fit comfortably and enclose the nose properly. 
    • Replace damaged equipment before use.
    • Wear proper gear including a snorkel, mask, and fins. 
    • Breathe through the snorkel before touching the water so your body can adjust.
    • Obtain the necessary permits beforehand if you plan to hunt, harvest, or collect marine life.
    • Read the laws and rules before conducting marine activity including collecting or hunting sea creatures. 
  • Don'ts
    • Do not use damaged equipment.
    • Do not wear masks that are too tight or too loose, water will seep through.
    • Do not use fins that are not flexible to the blade portion and do not follow manufacturer recommendations.
    • Do not leave children unsupervised with snorkeling gear.
 
2. During 
  • Do's
    • Conserve energy to enjoy the activity.  
    • Relax legs and arms to avoid cramps and other stress conditions.
    • Keep arms at their sides and focus on slowly kicking with fins.
    • Do not enter the water alone. The buddy system is much more safe, enjoyable, and fun. 
    • Check your buddy or partner to safely protect each other.
    • Speak up to your buddy if feeling tired.
    • Return to the water if your body is fully charged, snorkeling is strenuous.
    • Swim quickly for safety necessities.
  • Don'ts
    • Do not stress or move rapidly in the water. Try not to overthink just enjoy the experience.  
    • Do not swim along overstretching your arms to avoid over-exhaustion.
    • Do not step or walk on coral reefs. Be a nature lover, not a nature destroyer. 
    • Do not touch marine life including sharks, octopi, starfishes to avoid provoking the wild.
    • Do not enter the water if tired or have undergone strenuous activity beforehand.
 
3. After
  • Do's
    • Wear exposure protection once out of the water such as hats, T-shirts, and sunglasses (polarized- lenses).
    • Speak to your tour guide if you're uncomfortable or experiencing other ill conditions.
    • Drink water to avoid dehydration.
  • Don'ts
    • Do not over exhaust yourself, take one step at a time.
    • Do not forget to take pictures or videos.
